New parents are generally very cautious when taking their child in the car. Yet despite this caution, they can still cause crashes that endanger not only themselves and their baby but others on the road.
Here is why you should take extra care when you see a car with a baby on board:
Babies are a dangerous distraction
They might look harmless, sitting there wrapped up warm in their special car seat, but they are not. At that age, a child’s world revolves around feeding, sleeping, getting their diaper changed and getting the attention of their parent.
However politely a parent tries to explain to their newborn that they need to be quiet because they have to drive; the baby either does not understand or does not care. Focusing on the road when a baby wants something is hard, especially if they revert to tears which can be difficult to ignore.
That’s why many parents are tempted to turn around to soothe their baby. Doing that for even a second could be enough to miss someone stepping out into the road or another car getting closer to them. The result could be a crash which they could have avoided if they had found a safe place to stop before attending to their child.
If someone injures you while driving with their baby in the car, their first thought (and probably yours as well) will be for the baby’s safety. However, if you have suffered injuries, you should turn your mind to getting the compensation you need to cover medical bills and other expenses and damages.
